STREAM was an Industrial Doctorate Centre (IDC) for the Water Sector which ran between 2009 and 2022. Funding to support the programme came from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) with the research projects conducted by our students being sponsored by companies operating in the water sector.
The STREAM programme trained over 100 talented researchers across 10 annual cohorts. They developed their skills and careers via an integrated programme of courses and research and obtained an EngD or PhD degree from one of five UK academic centres of excellence in water science and engineering. Our graduates now occupy positions of influence and esteem across the water sector both in the UK and beyond.
Many of the research projects have had impact on the investments and practices of their sponsors. The research covered a wide range of topics, including drinking water treatment, wastewater treatment, distribution systems, catchment management, and decentralised water services. Projects covered all stages of research, from conception up to full-scale testing and implementation.
STREAM, unfortunately, has come to an end and is no longer offering studentships. However, the university logos below provide links to the relevant research groups where you may find other opportunities.
The pages on this legacy website showcase our wonderful students and their achievements. We are grateful for the support provided by EPSRC and the companies who sponsored research projects and would like to thank everyone who helped make STREAM a success.
